- Here is the script that I plan to use with Solar Eclipse Maestro for the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. This is for my main camera / scope combo of a Canon 7D Mark II and an AstroTech AT65Q f/6.5 420mm focal length mounted on a Losmandy GM8, and it is for around Madras Oregon where totality lasts about 2 minutes.

You start it manually and the offset times start from the time that the script was launched. I think once you have your script figured out you can build an emergency script where the times are.

I’ve put a lot of planning into creating a script that will shoot the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017.
I plan to use Solar Eclipse Maestro to automate the image acquisition.
The script runs from the Diamond Ring and includes Baily’s Beads just before totality, Chromosphere, Prominences, an HDR sequence of exposures for the Corona, and then Prominences, Chromosphere, Baily’s Beads and the Diamond Ring again at the end of totality.
Naturally, this assumes a clear sky.
But what if it is partly or mostly cloudy. You might get lucky and have a hole in the clouds with a clear shot of the Sun for a brief period.
That is what an “emergency” script is for.
It is a pretty simple script. It starts with a 4-second exposure for maximum corona and shoots 7 frames down to 1/1000th second.
It is designed to get one full HDR sequence of the corona with 2-stop intervals.
Solar Eclipse Schedule
It can run in about 12 seconds.
If you get another hole in the clouds, you can run it again.
Emphasis is on speed here, so no mirror lock up is used.
This uses the Ramp down function which shoots frames as quickly as possible but safely.
You can accomplish the same thing in Eclipse Orchestrator with a series of TAKEPIC commands spaced at 2 stop intervals.
