But, in order to run Chrome on a Mac, you would need a MacBook Pro or iMac that is a 2011 or newer model, or a MacBook Air that is a 2012 or newer model....AND...you would need to be running at least OS X 10.9.x on the iMac.

An iMac that is running an older operating system like OS X 10.6.8 is probably a 2007 to 2008 or earlier model. If that is the case, sorry but you will need a new Mac if you want to use Chrome.
